PONCHO KP-52

“GO BACK TO THE ROOTS, WE ARE MESTIZOS”

This garment is a tribute to the simplest suit in history, the hiding place from the cold, from the cold meat machete and also from warrior pride, a garment that, in the words of its creators, allows us to “Return to the roots, not to the past, retake the essence and ancient knowledge”.

Kaftan by the illustrator Garavato and the embroiderer Juliana Higuera together with a very special group of embroidery students from the Santo Domingo school present a new genderless garment with all the characteristics of the brand under the name of KP-52.

Respecting the essential origin of the garment, connected with the inherited craft of embroidery and aligning ourselves with the new imaginaries of illustrators, KP-52 is an example of art, design and tradition.

GARAVATO

We are Mestizos who are adding more things to our own culture and thus feeding those around us, listen, read, follow and with whom we share,
in this way evolving miscegenation which within a couple of years or after the next decade, there will be a new race, with which we will all be identified.

This is just a small analogy, of being able to mix passions, careers, ages and experiences, knowledge and love for craftsmanship and being able to generate a hybrid, following the rules of DO IT FOR YOURSELF, and not forgetting where we come from.

Juliana Higuera

This collaboration with Garavato and Kaftan was a return to where we began to recognize and reconnect with our roots to give value and life to the work done with our hands.

Through the threads I learned to feel, to unite my head, my heart and my hands; This job is for me, resistance to the rush of the everyday world that does not stop.

My work has been reflected in collections such as “flora” from Tarpuy, which was presented at expoartesanías 2018 for Juliana Hurtado in the Matamoros collection “Heroismo Recognized by Artisans” and the Santo Domingo School of Arts and Crafts.

KAFTAN CREATOR, is the space that brings together creators, on this occasion around 180 attendees learned about the KP-52 poncho, it was designed as a non-gender garment

For the elaboration of this new garment, some basic characteristics of the referent “Poncho” were preserved, such as its amplitude in the cuts, the comfort when wearing it and the protection it offers at low temperatures, but at the same time it was provided with elements of functionality, design and materials that respond to the natural conditions of the current individual.
